Three Jet Oils From ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants Now Listed on Qualified Products List for SAE AS5780A Specification

FAIRFAX, Virginia, January 15, 2008 — ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants today announced that three of its jet oils are approved to the new specification for aero and aero- derived gas turbine engine lubricants endorsed by civil aviation authorities. Mobil Jet Oil 387 joins Mobil Jet Oil II and Mobil Jet Oil 254 on the Qualified Products List (QPL) of SAE International, the world’s largest aerospace standards development organization.

Until now, the performance requirements of gas turbine lubricants had been defined by military and Original Engine Manufacturers (OEM) specifications. The new specification, called AS5780A, incorporates input from civil aviation authorities for the first time. It was developed to meet the growing performance and quality needs that commercial airlines seek, especially with the entrance of new higher-output and lower oil-consumption engines.

The standard also includes significant input from engine manufacturers and major lubricant providers, as well as many government agencies. These agencies include Canadian, German and French militaries, UK Defence Fuels Group, QinetiQ and the US Navy and US Air Force. Support for the standard also came from the French Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC), UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

The SAE AS5780A specification defines the basic physical, chemical and performance limits for five centistoke viscosity grades of gas turbine engine-lubricating oils used in aero and
aero-derived marine and industrial applications. The specification also describes standard methods and requirements for laboratories performing the tests to qualify oils.

Mobil Jet Oil II was approved to the SAE AS5780A specification in August 2007. The high-performance, aircraft-type gas turbine lubricant is recommended for aircraft gas turbine engines of the turbo-jet, turbo-fan, turbo-prop and turbo-shaft (helicopter) types in commercial and military service.

Mobil Jet Oil 387 joins Mobil Jet Oil II and Mobil Jet Oil 254 on the Qualified Products List (QPL) of SAE International, the world’s largest aerospace standards development organization. All three jet oils are approved to the new SAE AS5780A specification endorsed by civil aviation authorities.
